How WhatsApp Business API pricing works in India
Meta has charged per delivered message since 1 July 2025. Every template message falls into one of three categories: marketing, utility or authentication. Meta sets a base rate for each category and country, and your provider adds the cost of its platform and support.
On our plans you see one price per message for each category and a fixed monthly fee for the platform. Template messages are charged only after Meta confirms delivery. GST at 18% is added to the plan fee, the setup fee and the message charges.
Plans and per-message rates
Each plan has a monthly fee, a one-time setup fee and its own message rates. Higher plans cost more each month but less per message.
- Starter: ₹999 a month plus ₹2,999 one-time setup. Marketing ₹0.98, utility ₹0.16 and authentication ₹0.16 per delivered message. One number, shared inbox, templates, broadcasts, contacts and segments, basic reports.
- Growth: ₹2,499 a month plus ₹4,999 setup. Marketing ₹0.92, utility ₹0.14 and authentication ₹0.14. Two numbers, drip campaigns, retargeting, website chat widget, click-to-WhatsApp ad attribution and an automation studio.
- Pro: ₹4,999 a month plus ₹9,999 setup. Marketing ₹0.88, utility ₹0.12 and authentication ₹0.12. Five numbers, an AI reply assistant, commerce and payments, and priority support.
What changed on 1 October 2026
Meta started charging again for two kinds of message that had been free. Service messages, the free-form replies you send within 24 hours of a customer writing to you, are now free only for the first 1,000 per business number each month. Utility templates sent while a customer service window is open are now charged too.
If your team answers a lot of support chats on WhatsApp, count your service replies when you compare plans. Meta's own documentation lists the current rules and rate cards.
Which plan is cheapest for your volume?
At 10,000 marketing messages a month, Starter costs ₹999 + ₹9,800 = ₹10,799, and Growth costs ₹2,499 + ₹9,200 = ₹11,699, so Starter is cheaper. Growth becomes cheaper above 25,000 marketing messages a month, and Pro becomes cheaper than Growth above 62,500. These figures exclude GST and the one-time setup fee.
For senders who mostly send utility messages, such as order and delivery updates, the break-even points are higher. Growth beats Starter above 75,000 utility messages a month, and Pro beats Growth above 1,25,000. At 50,000 utility messages a month, Starter costs ₹8,999, Growth ₹9,499 and Pro ₹10,999.
WhatsApp or SMS: which costs less?
For one-time passwords, an SMS costs ₹0.15 to ₹0.20 on our SMS plans with no monthly fee, while a WhatsApp authentication message costs ₹0.12 to ₹0.16 plus the WhatsApp plan fee. At low volumes SMS is cheaper, and it reaches every phone without data.
WhatsApp pays off when you also use it for offers, support and rich messages with buttons and images. Many businesses use both channels and keep SMS as the fallback when a WhatsApp message is not delivered.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost in India?
On our plans you pay a monthly fee of ₹999, ₹2,499 or ₹4,999, a one-time setup fee of ₹2,999 to ₹9,999, and a charge for each delivered template message. Marketing messages cost ₹0.88 to ₹0.98, and utility or authentication messages ₹0.12 to ₹0.16, depending on the plan. GST at 18% is extra.
Are WhatsApp service messages still free?
Partly. Since 1 October 2026, Meta gives each business phone number 1,000 free service messages a month. Service messages are the replies you send within 24 hours of a customer's message. Beyond 1,000 a month Meta charges for them, so busy support teams should include them in their estimate.
Do I pay for WhatsApp messages that are not delivered?
No. Template messages are charged only when Meta confirms delivery to the customer's phone.
Is there a setup fee for the WhatsApp Business API?
Yes. The one-time setup fee is ₹2,999 on Starter, ₹4,999 on Growth and ₹9,999 on Pro, plus GST.
Which WhatsApp plan should I choose?
Choose by volume and features. Starter is cheapest below about 25,000 marketing messages a month. Growth adds a second number, drip campaigns and an automation studio, and is cheaper above that. Pro adds five numbers, an AI reply assistant and commerce features, and is cheaper above about 62,500 marketing messages a month.
Can I send OTPs on WhatsApp?
Yes, with an approved authentication template, at ₹0.12 to ₹0.16 per delivered message depending on the plan. Keep SMS as a fallback, because not every customer uses WhatsApp.
