SMS gateway Oman: ports, couriers, hotels and shops

Oman's economy depends on moving goods and people. Containers pass through Sohar, Duqm and Salalah ports, free zones ship to the wider Gulf, and couriers cover long distances between towns. Each step creates a message someone is waiting for: customs cleared, truck booked, parcel out for delivery, driver arriving. Tourism adds another layer, from Muscat hotels in the cooler months to the Khareef season in Dhofar each summer, when visitors need booking codes and reminders.

We are AvanceZone Technology, a Coimbatore messaging company in bulk SMS since 2000, and we reach Omani networks through global carrier partners. India's Ministry of External Affairs counts about 6.8 lakh Indians in Oman. Indian shippers, exporters, schools, hospitals and builders that serve people in Oman can send +968 messages from the same panel and API they use in India. Delivery reports show the result for every number, so your team can see which messages reached each network.

Oman's 2026 rules for promotional SMS

Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) issued a new regulation on promotional calls, service messages and value-added services in August 2026. Businesses and operators have six months to bring their systems in line, so expect stricter checks through early 2027. Operators must give users simple ways to block all promotions or chosen senders, and must filter spam and fraud, including traffic that starts outside Oman. Fines can reach OMR 30,000 for some breaches and may double for a repeat offence within a year.

Sender IDs already had to be registered with Omani operators before the new rules, and registration remains mandatory on the main networks. A typical file includes your trade licence, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) on company letterhead, signed and stamped, sample messages and your website. Registration usually takes two to four weeks, so start before your first campaign date. The points that matter most for campaigns:

  • Promotional sender IDs show your legal or trade name within 11 characters. Reports of the regulation say they also begin with AD, for example AD-ACMESTAY, and we confirm the format with our Oman route partner.
  • Promotional SMS goes out only between 8am and 9pm Oman time. Some routes apply a shorter window.
  • Keep OTPs and delivery alerts on a separate service sender ID.
  • Oman's Personal Data Protection Law requires written consent before you send marketing material, plus a way to opt out.
  • Gambling, political, religious, alcohol and tobacco content is generally blocked.

Arabic, English and Indian languages in Omani SMS

Arabic is the safer choice for Omani customers, especially for bank, utility and clinic messages that touch family life. English is standard for logistics, B2B notices and messages to expatriate staff. Each Arabic part carries 70 Unicode characters, or 67 once a message splits into several parts. An Arabic shipment update with a tracking number can easily take two parts, so skip the greeting and lead with the reference number and date.

Write rial amounts with three decimals, such as OMR 4.500, because the rial is divided into 1,000 baisa. Many Indian residents in Oman come from Kerala and other southern states, and a short Malayalam or Hindi message often lands better with them than Arabic or English. We support Unicode in Indian languages, so you can keep one list per language. Test on a few local handsets before a large send.

When WhatsApp beats SMS in Oman, and when it does not

WhatsApp works well in Oman for conversations: a guest asking about an airport pickup, a shopper sending a photo of the item they want, or a customs broker sharing documents. The WhatsApp Business API adds approved templates, buttons and a shared inbox for your team. Our Meta Tech Provider status lets us set it up for you. Since 1 October 2026, Meta prices messages to Omani numbers at Oman-specific rates in place of its regional Middle East rate.

SMS remains the dependable channel for one-time codes, payment alerts and anything sent to drivers, field staff or visitors who may not have data or WhatsApp. A delivery driver on an interior highway may have signal but no mobile data. A practical split for logistics firms is WhatsApp for documents and chat and SMS for OTPs and time-critical alerts, with SMS fallback when WhatsApp fails.

Oman SMS pricing, quotes and support hours

Oman traffic is charged message by message at a destination rate, quoted in INR or USD. SMS carries no setup fee and no monthly fee. Volume and traffic type set your rate, since service and promotional messages run on separate sender IDs. Any operator fee for sender ID registration is separate and listed on your quote. Long Arabic messages are billed per part, so send us a sample template when you ask for a price.

Our sales and support team works Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm IST, which is 7:30am to 5:30pm in Oman. Oman's working week runs Sunday to Thursday, so we overlap fully from Monday to Thursday, are closed on Sunday and are open on Saturday. The platform itself runs 24x7, so codes and shipment alerts are sent whenever your system triggers them. To start, tell us the sender name you want, what you will send and roughly how many messages a month.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do Omani networks require sender ID registration?

Yes, on the main networks. Omani operators expect each alphanumeric sender ID to be registered in advance, and unregistered traffic is likely to be blocked. The usual file is a trade licence, a signed and stamped NOC on company letterhead, sample messages and your website. Registration often takes two to four weeks. We prepare the file with you and check current operator requirements during onboarding.

Do promotional sender IDs in Oman need an AD prefix?

News reports of Oman's 2026 regulation on promotional calls and messages say promotional SMS must come from a sender ID that reflects your legal or trade name and begins with AD, for example AD-ACMESTAY. Operators apply the rule, so we confirm the exact format with our Oman route partner before we register your ID.

When can I send marketing SMS in Oman?

The TRA's 2026 regulation allows promotional calls and messages between 8am and 9pm Oman time. Some international routes apply a shorter window, so we confirm yours before the first campaign. OTPs and service alerts the customer expects can go at any hour. Oman is 1.5 hours behind India, and our scheduler takes Oman time directly.

Do I need customer consent to send marketing SMS in Oman?

Yes. Oman's Personal Data Protection Law, issued by Royal Decree 6/2022, requires written consent before you send advertising or marketing material, and you must offer a way to opt out. Keep a dated record of how each number joined your list. Operators must also let users block promotions, so unwanted offers can quickly lead to blocks and complaints.

Can I send Arabic SMS through your gateway to Oman?

Yes. We send Arabic in Unicode (UCS-2), the encoding phones in Oman use for Arabic script. One Arabic part holds 70 characters, or 67 per part when the message is split, so long Arabic offers use more parts than English ones. Check your template in our free SMS character counter before sending. You can also send Malayalam or Hindi messages to Indian residents.

How do you price SMS to Oman?

Each SMS to an Omani number costs the per-message rate in your quote, which we give in INR or USD. There is no setup or monthly fee for SMS. It varies with volume and with the mix of service and promotional traffic. Operator charges for sender ID registration, if any, are listed separately. Share your monthly volume and a sample message for a written quote.
