A bulk SMS service in Sri Lanka from just across the Palk Strait

Typical users include microfinance companies sending loan reminders, tea and garment exporters messaging staff, private hospitals in Colombo, tuition classes and tour operators in Galle and Kandy. AvanceZone Technology has worked in bulk SMS since 2000 and sends Sri Lankan traffic through global carrier partners.
Sri Lanka sender ID rules
Sri Lankan networks have moved toward registered sender IDs, and published carrier guidance says unregistered IDs to the main networks will be blocked from July 2026. Rules can change between networks, so we confirm the current position with you during onboarding.
- Alphanumeric sender IDs usually need pre-registration with Dialog, Hutch and other main networks, which can take about three weeks.
- Some networks accept only OTP and transactional traffic on registered IDs, so marketing to those subscribers may be blocked.
- Numeric sender IDs and local long codes are generally not supported for business SMS.
- Two-way replies to an SMS are not usually available, so plan a call-back number or WhatsApp for responses.
- Take opt-in consent for marketing and honour STOP requests quickly.

Writing in Sinhala, Tamil or English
Sinhala and Tamil both use Unicode, which allows 70 characters per SMS part. A short Sinhala payment reminder fits in one or two parts. English fits 160 characters per part and is common for bank-style alerts and OTPs.
Pick the language by region and audience. A plantation company may message estate workers in Tamil, Colombo office staff in English and customers in the south in Sinhala. Keep separate lists so each group gets one clear message instead of three languages squeezed into one.
When WhatsApp works better in Sri Lanka
WhatsApp is popular in Sri Lanka, especially for small business chat and among families with relatives abroad. If you need replies, photos of products or a catalogue, the WhatsApp Business API suits better than one-way SMS. We are a Meta Tech Provider and can run both channels on one account, with SMS as a fallback when WhatsApp does not deliver.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need sender ID registration in Sri Lanka?
In most cases, yes. The main Sri Lankan networks generally require alphanumeric sender IDs to be pre-registered, and published carrier guidance says unregistered IDs to these networks will be blocked from July 2026. Registration usually takes a few weeks. We help you prepare the request during onboarding.
Can I send SMS in Sinhala and Tamil?
Yes. Our gateway supports Unicode, so Sinhala and Tamil display correctly on modern phones. Each Unicode SMS part carries up to 70 characters, compared with 160 for English. Check the part count with our character counter before you send a long message.
Can customers reply to my SMS in Sri Lanka?
Two-way SMS is not generally supported for business traffic into Sri Lanka. If you need replies, add a call-back number in the message or use the WhatsApp Business API, which lets customers chat with your team. We can set up both on the same account.
Can I send promotional SMS to all Sri Lankan networks?
Not always. Some networks accept only OTP and transactional messages on registered sender IDs, so promotions to their subscribers may be blocked. We review your list and message type during onboarding and tell you what to expect on each network.
What does bulk SMS in Sri Lanka cost?
Sri Lanka SMS is charged per message and quoted by destination, in INR or USD on request. Your rate depends on volume and message type. There is no monthly platform fee. Share your expected volume and we will send a quote.
