SMS Service for Hospitals and Clinics That Protects Patient Privacy
Our SMS service for hospitals and clinics sends appointment confirmations, doctor delay notices, lab report alerts and follow-up reminders from your HMS, with templates that keep diagnoses and test results off the patient's lock screen.

Hospitals, clinics and diagnostic labs use SMS for appointment booking and reminders, doctor delay notices, lab report ready alerts, discharge follow-ups, vaccination due dates and pharmacy refill reminders. These are service messages. Keep medical details out of the SMS text and link to a secure portal. Health camp promotions follow promotional rules.
No diagnosis in text
Templates tell patients a report is ready, never what it says.
Doctor delay notices
Tell waiting patients when the OPD is running late.
HMS and lab integration
Trigger SMS from your hospital or lab software via API.
Follow-up and refill reminders
Bring patients back for reviews, vaccines and repeat medicines on time.
How an SMS service for hospitals and clinics supports the patient journey
From booking to follow-up, a patient interacts with your hospital several times. An SMS service for hospitals and clinics turns each of those points into a short, timely message: slot confirmation, a reminder the evening before, a delay notice if the consultant is held up in surgery, a report ready alert, and a review date after discharge.
A multispeciality hospital in Coimbatore can send delay notices to everyone booked in a cardiology OPD when the doctor is called for an emergency. Patients travelling from Tiruppur or Pollachi can then plan their arrival instead of waiting in the lobby. Clinics see fewer no-shows when reminders go out a day ahead.
Message types and their DLT routes
Healthcare messages are mostly service implicit because they relate to a patient's existing booking or treatment.
- Appointment confirmed, reminder, rescheduled: service implicit, -S header.
- Lab report ready, discharge summary available: service implicit.
- Vaccination due, review visit due, refill reminder: service implicit.
- Login OTP for patient portal or teleconsult app: transactional or service, any time.
- Free health camp, master health check-up offer: promotional, -P header, 10am to 9pm.

Patient privacy rules for health SMS
An SMS can be read on a lock screen or by family members who share the phone. Never include a diagnosis, test values, HIV or pregnancy status, or the name of a sensitive department in the text. Say the report is ready and give a link to your secure portal, protected by an OTP. The DPDP Act 2023 treats health information as personal data that needs care and clear purpose.
Doctors should also keep in mind their own professional conduct rules on publicity. Promotional health camp SMS should describe the service plainly and avoid claims about cure rates. Keep the opt-out line in every promotional template.
Fewer no-shows and better use of OPD slots
Empty slots cost a clinic a consultation, and a crowded waiting hall frustrates every patient in it. Send the reminder the evening before with an option to reply C to cancel, and release cancelled slots to walk-in patients or your waiting list. Two-way SMS lets your front desk see replies in the panel without calling each patient.
Dental, physiotherapy and IVF clinics with multi-visit treatment plans benefit most, because a missed visit delays the whole plan. Compare no-show counts for a month before and after you start reminders, using your own appointment data.
Diagnostic labs can apply the same idea to home sample collection. Send the phlebotomist's name and time window the evening before, and a short alert when they are on the way, so the patient is ready and fasting where needed.
When to add WhatsApp or voice
WhatsApp works well for sending prescriptions and reports as PDFs after the patient opts in, and for two-way booking chat. Keep SMS for OTPs, reminders and delay notices, since they must reach every patient including elderly people on basic phones. For older patients who do not read SMS, a short voice call reminder in Tamil or Malayalam helps.

Frequently asked questions
Can a hospital send lab results by SMS?
It is safer to send a report ready alert with a link to a secure portal than the results themselves. SMS can be read on a lock screen or by others using the same phone. Keep test names and values out of the text and let the patient log in with an OTP to see the report.
Do appointment reminders work for DND numbers?
Yes. Appointment confirmations and reminders relate to a booking the patient made, so they are service messages and reach DND numbers when sent with an approved -S template. A health check-up package offer is promotional and needs consent or a non-DND number, sent between 10am and 9pm.
Can clinics send reminders in Tamil or Malayalam?
Yes. Register Unicode templates in the language your patients prefer. A Unicode SMS fits 70 characters per part, so keep doctor names and times short. You can also send the same reminder as a voice call for elderly patients who find SMS hard to read.
How do we connect SMS to our hospital software?
Most HMS and lab systems can call an HTTP API when a booking or report status changes. Our REST API accepts the number, template variables and header, and returns a message ID. Delivery reports come back to your server by webhook, so you can store them against the patient visit.
What does SMS cost for a clinic?
A single clinic sending a few hundred reminders a week fits the Starter plan at ₹0.20 per delivered SMS. Hospital groups sending more move to Business at ₹0.15 per SMS up to 1,00,000 a month, or Enterprise pricing. All prices exclude 18% GST and there is no monthly fee.
