Who needs a bulk SMS service in Nepal

Nepal's private schools, colleges, cooperatives, microfinance institutions and hospitals send SMS every day for fee dues, exam results, savings balances and appointment slots. Trekking agencies in Thamel and Pokhara use SMS to update guests on permits and flights, and remittance businesses send transfer alerts to families.

Many Nepali businesses also have customers, students or suppliers in India. With AvanceZone Technology, you can send to Nepal and India from one panel. We have run bulk SMS since 2000 from Coimbatore and send Nepal traffic through global carrier partners.

Sender ID rules for Nepal

Published carrier guidance is clear that business SMS to Nepal needs an alphanumeric sender ID registered in advance. We confirm current requirements with you during onboarding, as operator rules can change.

  • Alphanumeric sender IDs are generally pre-registered, which can take around two weeks.
  • Numeric sender IDs are not supported and may be replaced with a generic name.
  • Unregistered or dynamic sender IDs are usually overwritten, so customers would not see your brand.
  • Two-way SMS and short codes are not generally available for international senders.
  • Take opt-in consent for marketing, send in daytime hours and honour STOP requests.

Writing SMS in Nepali

Nepali is written in Devanagari and sent as Unicode, which allows 70 characters per SMS part. A fee reminder with a name, amount and date usually fits in two parts. English uses 160 characters per part and suits OTPs and bank alerts.

Romanised Nepali typed in English letters is common in chats and fits more text per part, but it can look informal for a bank or hospital. We suggest Devanagari for parents and customers, and English for codes and staff notices. Write amounts as रु. or Rs consistently so customers are not confused.

WhatsApp, Viber and SMS in Nepal

Messaging apps are widely used in Nepal, and families often keep in touch with relatives abroad over them. When you need replies, documents or photos, the WhatsApp Business API is a good option for customers who use WhatsApp. We are a Meta Tech Provider and can set it up.

SMS remains the most reliable way to reach every phone in the country, including basic handsets in rural districts. For OTPs, fee dues and urgent notices, keep SMS as the main channel.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is sender ID registration required for SMS to Nepal?

Yes, in practice. Published carrier guidance says business SMS to Nepal needs a pre-registered alphanumeric sender ID, and unregistered IDs are usually overwritten. Registration typically takes around two weeks. We help you prepare and submit the request during onboarding, and you can test once it is approved.

Can I send SMS in Nepali?

Yes. Our gateway sends Nepali in Devanagari using Unicode, which displays correctly on most phones in Nepal. Each Unicode part holds up to 70 characters, so long Nepali messages are billed as more parts. Use our character counter to check before you send.

Can I use a numeric sender ID in Nepal?

Numeric sender IDs are generally not supported by Nepali networks, and messages from them may show a generic sender name instead. A registered alphanumeric sender ID such as ACMENP is the reliable option, because customers see your brand name on every message.

Can my school or cooperative send SMS from software?

Yes. Our HTTP API connects to school ERP, cooperative software and hospital systems, so fee dues, savings alerts and reports go out automatically. Delivery reports come back to your system. You can also upload Excel files on our web panel.

How is bulk SMS to Nepal priced?

Nepal SMS is billed per message and quoted by destination, in INR or USD on request. The rate depends on your volume and message type, and there is no monthly platform fee. Tell us your expected volume and we will send a quote.
