What makes bulk SMS Malaysia different
Malaysia has some of the most specific SMS content rules in Asia, shaped by MCMC efforts against scams. If you have sent SMS in India or the Gulf, three things will feel new. We confirm current rules with you at onboarding, but published carrier guidance points to these:
- Messages usually start with RM0.00, which tells the recipient they are not charged. Without it, a message may be cut or rejected.
- Since September 2024, many operators block SMS that contain URLs, phone numbers or requests for personal details such as IC numbers or bank information.
- Marketing and promotional messages should not be sent between 8pm and 8am.
- The sender shown to customers is often an operator-approved short code, so put your brand name in the message text.
- Prohibited topics include gambling, loans, alcohol, political and religious content.
Writing SMS that gets through in Malaysia
With links and phone numbers filtered, your message has to work on its own. Name your brand right after RM0.00, state the fact the customer needs and tell them where to act, such as your app or your outlet. For OTPs, keep to the code, the expiry and a warning not to share it.
Bahasa Malaysia suits government-linked services, utilities and mass-market retail. English is common in Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru. Mandarin and Tamil reach specific communities. Malay in Latin script fits 160 characters per part. Mandarin and Tamil use Unicode at 70 characters.

Who uses our Malaysia SMS service
Private clinics in Petaling Jaya, tuition centres in Ipoh, logistics firms in Port Klang and e-commerce sellers across the Klang Valley send reminders and OTPs. Indian companies with Malaysian customers also use us so that India DLT traffic and Malaysia traffic share one account. AvanceZone Technology has worked in bulk SMS since 2000 and routes Malaysian traffic through global carrier partners.
SMS or WhatsApp in Malaysia
WhatsApp is the main chat app for many Malaysian households. Because links are filtered in SMS, the WhatsApp Business API is often the better choice when you need to share a payment link, a catalogue or a tracking page. We are a Meta Tech Provider and set up templates and an inbox. Keep SMS for OTPs and short alerts that must reach every phone.
Pricing and support
Malaysia SMS is priced per message and quoted by destination, in INR or USD on request. Our team works Monday to Saturday, 11:30am to 9:30pm Malaysia time, by phone, WhatsApp and email. The platform runs 24x7 for OTPs and alerts. Send us your draft templates with your enquiry, and we will point out any wording or links likely to be filtered before your first campaign goes out to customers.
Other countries we send to
We also send SMS and WhatsApp messages to customers abroad, with help on each country's sender ID and consent rules.

Frequently asked questions
Why do Malaysian SMS start with RM0.00?
RM0.00 at the start of a business SMS tells the customer they are not being charged for the message. Malaysian operators generally expect it on A2P traffic, and messages without it may be cut or fail. Our templates add it for you, followed by your brand name.
Can I include links in SMS to Malaysia?
Usually not. Since September 2024, many Malaysian operators block messages containing URLs, phone numbers or requests for personal information, as part of anti-scam measures linked to MCMC. Direct customers to your app or outlet instead, or use the WhatsApp Business API when you need to share a link.
What time can I send promotional SMS in Malaysia?
Published carrier guidance says marketing and promotional SMS should not be sent between 8pm and 8am. OTPs and service alerts can be sent when needed. Our panel lets you schedule campaigns in Malaysia time, so you do not need to convert from IST.
Will customers see my brand name as the sender?
Not always. On many Malaysian routes, the sender is replaced with an operator-approved short code. That is why your brand name should appear right after RM0.00 in the message text. We tell you what to expect on the route we use for you.
How much is bulk SMS in Malaysia?
Malaysia SMS is charged per message and quoted by destination, in INR or USD on request. The rate depends on your monthly volume and message type. Share your expected volume and draft templates, and we will send a written quote.
