Who uses our bulk SMS Bahrain service

Bahrain is a banking centre for the Gulf, with retail banks, insurers, exchange houses and a busy fintech scene in Manama. They all need fast, reliable codes and alerts: login OTPs, card payment alerts, transfer approvals and statement notices. Restaurants and shops in Seef, Adliya and Juffair add weekend offers, many aimed at visitors who cross the King Fahd Causeway from Saudi Arabia. Car dealers and clinics send service and appointment reminders. Each of these messages has to reach any phone on Batelco, Zain Bahrain or stc Bahrain, including basic handsets without internet.

Our company, AvanceZone Technology in Coimbatore, has handled bulk SMS since 2000 and routes Bahrain messages through global carrier partners. India's Ministry of External Affairs puts the Indian community in Bahrain at about 3.2 lakh people. Indian banks with NRI products, builders, jewellers and colleges that serve them can send +973 messages from the same panel they use for DLT traffic in India. You get one login, one set of delivery reports and one support team for both countries.

Bahrain SMS rules and sender IDs

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) regulates SMS in Bahrain. Its Bulk Messaging Regulation, issued as Resolution No. 1 of 2011, covers promotional SMS or MMS sent to 100 or more people at once on Bahraini networks. Licensed operators must give every user a free way to opt out of bulk messages, and they apply the rules to traffic from senders like you. In 2025 the TRA and the operators also published guidelines for reducing fraudulent SMS, which address spoofed sender IDs and scam messages.

Sender ID rules in Bahrain are lighter than in Oman or Qatar. Several international routes deliver a brand-name sender ID without pre-registration, while others register each ID with the operators first. On every route, generic words like INFO or SMS, and the names of the mobile operators, are blocked. We confirm the position on your route before you launch. For promotional bulk messages, the regulation sets these conditions:

  • Send only to people who have expressly agreed to receive your messages, and keep a record of that consent.
  • Send between 9am and 8pm Bahrain time.
  • Send no more than one promotional message a day to the same person, unless they agreed to more.
  • Include your identity and at least a phone number or email address.
  • Explain how to opt out, and state the price of what you offer plus any cost of replying.

Writing Arabic and English SMS for Bahrain

English works well in Bahrain for banking alerts, B2B notices and messages to the large expatriate workforce. Arabic reads better for Bahraini families and for anything personal, such as a clinic reminder or a loan update. Arabic is sent as Unicode, so one SMS part holds 70 characters, and 67 per part when a message is split. A two-line Arabic card alert can easily run to two parts, so drop greetings and put the amount and merchant first.

Write dinar amounts with three decimals, such as BD 12.750, because the dinar is divided into 1,000 fils. Keep OTP messages short and say how long the code is valid. Ramadan in 2027 is expected to begin around 8 February, subject to moon sighting, and the busy hour after iftar still falls inside the 9am to 8pm window. If you serve Indian residents, we can also send Malayalam, Hindi or Tamil Unicode SMS.

WhatsApp or SMS for Bahrain customers

WhatsApp is widely used in Bahrain, and many shops already take orders on it. The WhatsApp Business API suits conversations: answering product questions, sending a PDF invoice, sharing a location pin for delivery or a menu before a weekend brunch. AvanceZone is a Meta Tech Provider, so we can set up the API, submit your message templates and give your team a shared inbox. Meta charges per message by category, and messages to Bahraini numbers are billed at its Rest of Middle East rates.

SMS still does jobs that WhatsApp cannot promise. A bank OTP must arrive even when the customer has no data, has not saved your number or uses a basic phone. Banks also like SMS for transaction alerts because it goes to the number registered on the account. A common setup is WhatsApp for service chats and receipts, SMS for codes and alerts, and SMS as a fallback when a WhatsApp message is not delivered.

Pricing, quotes and support hours for Bahrain

We charge for Bahrain SMS per message, at a destination rate quoted in INR or USD. There is no setup fee and no monthly fee for SMS. The rate moves with monthly volume and with whether traffic is transactional or promotional. Arabic messages that run past one part are billed per part, so we check a sample of your templates when we quote. Any operator charge for sender ID registration, where a route needs it, is separate and shown on the quote.

Our team works Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm IST, which is 6:30am to 4:30pm in Bahrain. Bahrain's working week runs Sunday to Thursday, so we overlap fully from Monday to Thursday, and Sunday is a working day there while our office is closed. OTPs and card alerts keep going out after office hours, because the platform itself runs 24x7. To get a quote, send your sender name, the kinds of messages you plan and your expected monthly volume.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Bahrain require sender ID registration for bulk SMS?

Not always. Several international routes deliver brand-name sender IDs to Bahrain without pre-registration, while others register each ID with the operators first. Generic words like INFO or SMS, and the names of the mobile operators, will not get through. Use a sender ID that clearly matches your brand. We confirm the rule on your route and handle any registration before your first campaign.

During which hours can promotional SMS go out in Bahrain?

The TRA's Bulk Messaging Regulation allows promotional bulk messages between 9am and 8pm Bahrain time. It also limits you to one promotional message a day per person unless they agreed to more. OTPs, card alerts and delivery updates the customer expects are not promotions and can go at any time. Set the send time in Bahrain time on our panel and it handles the 2.5-hour gap with India.

What must a promotional SMS in Bahrain include?

Under the TRA regulation, each promotional bulk message should identify the sender and give at least a phone number or email address. It should explain how to opt out and state the price of the goods, service or event on offer, plus any cost of replying. You also need the person's express consent before you send. A short template can cover all of this in one or two SMS parts.

Can I send Arabic SMS to Bahrain numbers?

Yes. Arabic goes out as Unicode, so the script shows properly on phones in Bahrain. One Arabic SMS part holds 70 characters, or 67 per part when a message is split, so long Arabic offers use more parts than English ones. Paste a draft into our free SMS character counter to see how many parts it will use. You can keep separate Arabic and English lists so each customer gets one language.

Can an Indian company send SMS to customers in Bahrain?

Yes. Many Indian businesses serve the Indian community in Bahrain, such as banks with NRI products, builders, jewellers and colleges. You can send to +973 numbers from the same AvanceZone account you use in India. India's DLT rules cover messages delivered to Indian numbers. For Bahrain numbers, the TRA's consent, timing and opt-out rules apply instead.

What does it cost to send bulk SMS to Bahrain?

You pay per SMS sent to Bahrain, at the destination rate in your quote, in INR or USD. SMS has no setup fee and no monthly fee. Volume and message type set the rate, and long Arabic messages count as more than one part. Send us a sample message with your expected monthly count, and a written quote follows.
