Quick answer

Voice SMS is a pre-recorded audio message delivered as an automated outbound call, also called OBD (outbound dialling). It reaches people who cannot read or tend to ignore texts, and works in Tamil, Hindi or any language you record. You can add IVR keypress options to capture responses. Pricing is on request, based on volume and duration.

Who uses voice SMS

Text works when people read. Voice works when they listen. Cooperatives, rural lenders and community programmes reach older and less literate audiences better with a familiar voice in their own language. Schools use voice calls for holiday announcements because parents pick up a call even when they skip an SMS.

  • Dairy and agri cooperatives: collection timings and payment dates
  • Microfinance and NBFCs: EMI reminders in the borrower's language
  • Schools: rain holidays, closures and parent meetings
  • Hospitals: vaccination and follow-up reminders
  • Retail and real estate: event invites with press 1 to confirm

How a voice SMS service campaign works

Record a clip of 30 to 60 seconds, or have a voice artist record it. Upload the audio and your number list, choose a time slot and launch. The system dials each number and plays the clip when the call is answered. You can plan retries for numbers that did not pick up.

Add an IVR menu at the end: press 1 to confirm attendance, press 2 for a callback. The responses come back in a report you can download and act on, so a sales team calls only the people who pressed 2.

Making the message land

Keep the clip short. Say who is calling in the first five seconds, give one clear message and repeat the key detail, such as a date or an amount, at the end. A calm, local voice works better than a loud advertisement tone.

Treat promotional voice calls with the same care as promotional SMS. Call customers who agreed to hear from you, respect their DND preferences and keep to daytime hours. Under the DPDP Act 2023, give people a simple way to stop future calls.

Choosing when and how to call

Timing decides whether a voice call is answered. Rural audiences are often easier to reach in the morning or evening than at midday. Salaried workers answer after office hours. A rain-holiday call to parents has to go out the night before or early in the morning, while still respecting the hours your consent and DND obligations allow.

Split large lists by language and area so each group hears the right recording at a time that suits them. A cooperative covering Pollachi and Palakkad, for example, might send a Tamil clip to one batch and a Malayalam clip to the other.

Run a test of a few hundred numbers first. Listen to how the clip sounds on a basic phone, check how many people answered, and rewrite the opening line if many listeners hang up in the first few seconds.

Voice SMS pricing and pairing with text

Voice SMS pricing depends on clip length, volume and whether you need IVR, so we quote it on request. Many clients pair the call with a follow-up SMS, so the listener also has the date, amount or link in writing. The SMS part is billed at ₹0.20 or ₹0.15 per delivered SMS plus GST, and our team helps you plan both from day one.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is voice SMS?

Voice SMS is a recorded audio message delivered to many phones as an automated call. When the person answers, they hear your clip, which can be in Tamil, Hindi or any language you choose. It is useful for audiences who rarely read SMS, and it works on basic feature phones without data.

What is the difference between OBD and IVR?

OBD, or outbound dialling, is the system that places the calls and plays your recorded message. IVR, or interactive voice response, adds a menu so the listener can press keys to respond, for example 1 to confirm or 2 for a callback. A campaign can use OBD alone or OBD with an IVR menu.

How much does voice SMS cost in India?

Voice SMS pricing is on request because it depends on clip duration, the number of calls and whether you need IVR keypress capture. Share your expected volume and clip length, and our team will send a quote. Any follow-up text messages are billed at our standard ₹0.20 or ₹0.15 per SMS plus GST.

Can I send voice SMS in Tamil or Hindi?

Yes. You upload your own recording, so the message can be in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, English or a mix. Many clients record two versions and send each to the matching segment of their list, for example Tamil for Coimbatore district and Hindi for north Indian customers.

How long should a voice message be?

Aim for 30 to 60 seconds. Introduce yourself in the first few seconds so people do not hang up, give one message, and repeat the key date or amount at the end. Longer clips cost more and lose listeners, so trim anything that is not needed.

Can I see who answered and what they pressed?

Yes. After the campaign you get a report showing which numbers answered and which keys were pressed in the IVR menu. You can download it to plan callbacks, follow-up SMS or a second round of calls to numbers that did not answer the first time.
