Most businesses start with one of three SMS types. OTP SMS and transactional SMS carry messages a customer expects, such as login codes, order updates and bank alerts. With an approved DLT template they reach DND numbers at any hour. Promotional SMS carries offers and can go only to non-DND numbers or people who opted in, between 10am and 9pm.
Choose the WhatsApp Business API when customers reply, ask questions or need images and documents. It suits support, catalogues and payment links, and plans start at ₹999 a month plus Meta's per-message rates. RCS messaging adds rich cards and buttons inside the phone's own messaging app.
Voice SMS reaches people who do not read text, two-way SMS lets customers reply by keyword, and international SMS covers customers abroad.
